One of the aspects of both summer camp and camping outdoors that I love is spending time around a campfire. I love feeling the warmth and am mesmerized by the dancing of the flames. Fire can both destroy and create. And as we know, fire is extinguished by water.
This week we read that as the Israelites wandered the desert, God appeared as a cloud during the day and as fire by night. God is both water and fire, warmth and shade, and light and dark. For the Israelites, it was a way of representing that God encompassed everything from A to Z. Many of us have a different relationship with God today. Where do you find God? Where do you connect to something bigger? Do you find God in nature? Do you find God in fire and rain like I do?
