Go forth! That’s the major message from Torah this week. Really? Doesn’t the Tradition know that we’re just about to launch month nine of staying home as much as we can, venturing out only while masked and armed with a surplus of sanitizing supplies?! What are we meant to do with the message, “go forth” on the final weekend of October 2020?
The message calling out to me from Lech Lecha, Go Forth, is that now is the time to live and to lead. Torah provides us with the blueprint, but we are the builders. The specifics that fit each of our lives will be different. Judaism and Temple are here to help us navigate this path, determining how and where we can show up, ready to lead. We must all go forth, especially during such a tumultuous time, to choose life and lead one another along the journey.
