Two Minutes of Torah | Emor | Leviticus 21:1−24:23

Spending day after day in my home with my only commute being walking to and from my home office, the days seem to blend together. I lose my sense of time and forget what day of the week it is. I almost did not believe it when I found out we entered the month of May.

I could imagine a similar predicament beset the ancient Israelites as they wandered the desert. What was the meaning of each day for them?

Perhaps as a response to that very challenge, Judaism provides us with a plethora of ways to mark time. In parshat Emor we read of the various “appointed times,” the days that are “proclaimed holy,” including Shabbat, Passover and Yom Kippur. By dedicating certain days for a celebration or to God, those days become holy.

In our unique circumstances today, what could you do to mark time and bring holiness into your days?
