Presence While Distanced

A question I imagine we are all asking ourselves right now is how we can feel the presence of others while remaining physically distanced. As always seems to work out for us rabbis, our weekly Torah reading offers us some guidance. This week we read a special Torah portion for the Shabbat in the middle of Passover. In it, Moses desires to see the presence of God, in the hopes that seeing God will inspire Moses in his darkest moments to continue to trust and follow God. God denies Moses the opportunity to see God “face to face,” but offers to bring God’s goodness in front of Moses.

Like Moses, we are limited in our ability to engage in face to face interactions right now. And like God, we can still find ways to make our presence felt by our loved ones. Let us commit to use our powers to spread goodness to ourselves, our immediate circles and the whole world.
