Imagine journeying through a scorching hot, empty desert searching for a destination you have never seen with your eyes. When you arrive at the local well, a person offers you and your camels water. Ok, that may be a hard thing to imagine here in the Northwest. Instead, imagine reaching the height of a mountain and being offered a delicious snack. Or getting caught in a rainstorm and a person offering you an extra jacket or dare I say, an umbrella. Whether it is Rebecca in our Torah portion this week offering water to Abraham’s servant, or these imaginary strangers, in so many ways our livelihood depends on the actions of others.
