We are approaching the final Shabbat of the year 5781. Soon Rosh Hashanah will arrive and no matter our station in life, we are invited to account for our actions in the past year. God, too, our liturgy teaches us, takes an accounting of our actions. No matter our station in life, we appear before God. This notion of being present before God can be traced back to our parasha this week, Nitzavim. In it, all of the Israelites are gathered before God: the leaders, the children, the poor, and the resident aliens. The covenant is made with each of them, regardless of their status. What begins in the Torah, we live out on Rosh Hashanah: our fundamental equality and our responsibility for our actions.

I thoroughly enjoyed Rabbi Weiner’s Rosh Hashona sermon this morning. I watched it virtually, but would love the opportunity to read it. Would it be possible for TDS to make it available. Please let me know.
