This High Holy Day season, we’re embarking on a new initiative as part of our tikkun olam (social justice) work.
Inspired by the most repeated biblical imperative to welcome the stranger, by the Jewish story of the search for home, and by many of our individual family histories of immigration, we are undertaking the holy work of welcoming a refugee family. Led by a team of community members and supported by the work of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), we will provide this family with essential services that they need to start building new lives for themselves, from food and affordable housing to English classes and employment services. We will also work toward their long-term integration into the Seattle community.
We do not know details of the family yet, nor where they are from, but we do know it will take a community effort to house and provide for them.
We are hoping for your support in providing housing and necessities as they transition to life here. At this point, monetary support is most helpful.
